"On the Fourth of July in 1989, the Lemonheads entered the hallowed studios of the BBC. The band were at the end of a European tour and only too happy to find themselves recording a session for the legendary John Peel. It came at a time of huge change as original founding member Ben Deily had just departed, their third album “Lick” had just been released, and they were on the cusp of signing their souls away to Atlantic. They roared through some of their now iconic tracks, including “Mallo Cup” and “Circle of One” from “Lick”, as well as grunge banger “Clang Bang Clang” from the album “Creator” and gave an early preview of “(The) Door”, before it would become beloved for its soaring heavy rock guitar lines and snarly vocals, which would later be on display on their follow-up album “Lovey”. These blistering tracks are taken from their formative years; wild and raw, they capture the intense and volatile nature of a band often in turmoil, both with their pop and punk instincts and often with one another..."
